Dead sexy. I can't help but think that when I look at these two together! They are just too beautiful for their own good!

Alison has these killer blue eyes that are practically glow-in-the-dark they're so bright! Just amazing to photograph.

(these were made using a tilt-shift lens because ya'll know how much I loathe photoshop)

Matt has one of those contagious smiles that makes everyone else smile too. ;-)

When I asked them where they wanted to go for their engagement photos, Alison & Matt chose the downtown canal in Indianapolis by the Indiana State Museum. Even though I've been to the canal what seems like tons of times for engagement sessions, it always surprises me when everyone chooses a different favorite place along the canal!

Of course, what would a walk along the canal be without some skyline shots?

Of course, the canal is also a popular place for runners... so, just for fun...

One of the things I like to do with engagement photos is play with color, angles, expressions, moments, etc to help me figure out what my couples like and don't like. Do they have a preference for warm or cool colors? Muted or bright? Silly or serious? Abstract or real? Fashion or emotion? All of these are little clues and insights about how I can further personalize their wedding photos, so, for me... the engagement session is just a place to play with a bunch of ideas without the pressure of capturing critical moments and memories. ;-)

I love the movement in Alison's hair here and how it so perfectly frames her face...

Last year, Matt's sister celebrated her wedding at the Historical Center- this year, Matt will celebrate at the State Museum just down the street!

Not exactly a steam vent... but a steaming clock that sounds like a train whistle when it blows!

I felt like chocolate was the only appropriate color for this very yummy photo.... mmm... tasty chocolate....

Thank you Alison & Matt - you were fabulous!!! Only a few short months until your wedding day!! I really hope I'm caught up on blogging everything by then!!! ACK!

Lacey & Martin Engagement

When I found out that Lacey & Martin were BOTH art students, I knew I wanted to try some very different and experimental stuff for their engagement session! On one hand it was inspiration to step outside of the box, and on the other hand, it was a lot of pressure to create something very unique and different for a couple who already lives outside of the box in their everyday lives! ;-) I wanted to create more abstract images... striving to make unique pieces of art. Some of the things I attempted were a great success, and some were not so successful. I'll let you be the judge. ;-)

This little sculpture is a piece of Lacey's art and I LOVE what she did with it! The subject is actually found in the negative space between the two pieces- if you look long enough, you'll see the shape of a pregnant woman outlined by sculpture.

We had started off in the Broad Ripple area and ended up in downtown Indianapolis, along the canal. I planned for about half of our session to be after dark, so we could get some great night shots and try some different lighting techniques.

If these two are this cute on a windy day along the canal in downtown Indy - can you imagine how scrumptious they'll be on their wedding day!? I know I can't wait to find out!!

A little story about the shoes... Brooke wanted Jason to get rid of his old leather mules, so she hid them from him!! Well, I guess giving them back gave him just the comfort he needed to make it through their engagement session. Now if they ever disappear again, he'll always have a picture to remind him of his favorite shoes. ;)

I just love the ironwork on this bridge - it's probably my favorite bridge along the canal.

Brooke and I were thinking the exact same thing when we saw this spot!! LOVE IT!

It's not easy to pull off a serious look without looking angry- but they've got it!!

Flare, baby, flare!! Did you know that you can change the shape and look of your flare with your aperture (among other things)? Just a little tip for the photogs out there.

Last, but not least... a shot that's quickly becoming a signature shot for me along the canal. In fact, I get asked to shoot skylines A LOT!! I guess my couples love architecture as much as I do. ;-)

Nicole & Garfield Engagement

Are you ready to see a bunch of images?? I can't believe how many I took!! Nicole & Garfield had so much personality, I could barely contain myself from laughing the whole time we were shooting. I can only imagine what a blast their wedding day will be! They chose downtown Indy, specifically the monuments, for the backdrop of their images. I think we included almost all of the major monuments available downtown! However, a little birdie has mentioned that there may be a smack down on shooting around the monuments downtown. How crazy is that? Do you know how many tourists are there every weekend shooting their hearts out? I didn't run into any problems though, so I'll have to see if anyone else has problems before I assume we can't shoot there at all. On with the images! (Also, don't hate me, but due to space constraints I won't be posting slideshows for the engagements anymore, but I'll still post them for the weddings!!!)

Check out this killer ring! Nice!

More you say?? OK!!

Oh, this was awesome... we walked by a few jugglers in the park, and I asked Nicole & Garfield if they'd ever been in a juggling act before. Neither of them had, so I asked the jugglers if they would like a few people to practice on! I'm so glad I could be there to capture one of their firsts as a couple! (he, he, he) Do you know how hard it is to catch a good juggling picture?? Thank goodness for a camera with 6 frames per second!!

Nicole wanted to play up their team rivalry, so they slipped on some team t-shirts to represent!

This is where Garfield's cheesy side really started to shine. This is a proud member of our military! Too bad we didn't have any wind that day... they are both looking at the Marine's flag.

Nicole really wanted some fall pictures, however at the time there were only a few fallen leaves in the one small pathway. So... I made the most of the little collection on the walkway with the use of a nice wide angle lens and low perspective.

Congratulations Nicole & Garfield.. I can't wait to photograph your wedding!!
