Recently, I had the pleasure of meeing a wonderful artist namedChristine Edwards. Her collection of images represents her humorous look on life and her unique photographic style. Occasionally she offers holiday cards featuring some of her favorite images. The image below is from her Bruno & Fonzi collection and I had to share it because it makes me laugh every time I see it...
Dan's Poster

When I heard that a friend was hosting a conducting recital, I asked him where his posters were. He pointed to small poster which featured the picture of an old man (Stravinsky) and barely mentioned anything about the conductor! Well, to help Dan promote his conducting recital, we decided he needed to have a decent poster- and quick! The only camera I had on me at the moment was my throw-in-the-purse powershot camera, so we headed to the recital hall to create a quick image which could be turned into a poster. I was able to throw a poster together in no time and they were all over the music department the next day. Update: Dan's recital was a great success and he had a very healthy attendance! Congrats, Dan!
Beautiful People

There is so much to catch up on from this last weekend. Starting with Saturday- our annual Wine & Cheese Tasting in honor of Alex's birthday. We spent weeks preparing for this party, ordering special cheeses, getting extra supplies, and fixing up the house. The best part were the people- some of the greatest people we know showed up and had a wonderful time. It's so good to be surrounded by people who are open, intellectual, and easy going. I really feel incredibly lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life.
Sunday morning I attempted my first in-home studio shoot with a wonderful opera singer and friend from school. The lighting was natural window light and the backdrop was clumsily attached to the ceiling with velcro- but for all intents and purposes, it did what it needed to do. Ultimately I'm very happy with how the pictures turned out and so was the singer. This was a great trial run for the photo shoots that will be coming up in the next few weeks.
Sunday afternoon I interviewed with Marc Williams, an excellent local photographer and creative director. He was looking for an assistant to help him out with a few weddings and I was fortunate enough to be one of them. I really look forward to working with him and observing his photographic style. He has a lot of experience and a great eye (not too mention some of the best cameras money can buy), so this will be a great learning experience for me!

Did you know there are over 6 different ways of creating a spot colored image? I've been experimenting with this technique because it is increasingly popular with brides. Most often it appears in images where just the flowers are shown in color and the rest of the image is in black and white, but I think that's almost too obvious. I like using it in situations where the subject of the image may blend into the scene, and the spot coloring helps to make the subject pop out of the image while making the rest of the scene fall into the background. I think it works well for this image of the father giving away his daughter with a kiss, shot through a crowd of wedding guests.
Movies Featuring Photographers

If you love photography as much as I do, you seek to find many different ideas and ways of thinking about photography. In my recent quest I decided to poll a few photographers about their favorite movies with photographers as one of the main characters and here is the list that I received. It is definitely a varied list and interpretation of answers to my question, but nonetheless I thought it would be interesting to document the responses and perhaps chisel away at the list as my movie time allows...
