I'm sorry I've been gone for so long! I'm still here- just a little buried in boxes! Anyone need boxes for moving? Come on over and get some!

This weekend was the Lowell Folk Festival- the largest FREE folk festival in the U.S.! Since it was happening right in my "backyard," I thought I should venture out and capture a little of what life is like here in Lowell during the Folk Festival! They close down several downtown streets in order to host the variety of food tents, arts & crafts, family activvities, and various stages of music. The crafts were native to New England, the artists were mostly local, but the food and the musicians came from all over the world. If you love trying different foods and listening to interesting music, this is definitely the festival for you. ;-)

MOVING UPDATE: After 20+ hours on the road, we're finally at our new place in Lowell, MA! Woo Hoo!!! Funny thing is, even though we're here... our furniture won't be arriving until Friday, so we'll be camping out on our floors until our stuff catches up with us. Luckily, we learned from our last move and planned ahead to get our cable internet installed early so that I can get right back to work (at least on the stuff I can do online)! Here's a little video I made to show you our new place....

... MOVING ...

The day has finally come to say our goodbyes to Terre Haute, IN and head out east to our new home in Lowell, MA. I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm anxious... so many feelings all at once. Please keep us in your thoughts as we travel over the next few days!

Shannon & Kayu Engagement

What do you do when the bride lives in Montana, the groom lives in Texas, and the photographer lives in Indiana?? Have the engagement session in Michigan, of course!! Rain or shine, this engagement session was going to happen, because getting all of the stars aligned again wouldn't be likely until the wedding day!

shannon-kayu-engagement-1.jpg

Can we please take a moment to dwell on how fabulous Shannon's shoes are?! Seriously!
shannon-kayu-engagement-7.jpg

Native Michiganders will recognize the scenery as the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where Shannon and Kayu met and fell in love... at Skeepers. HA! OK, not entirely at Scorekeepers, but it makes for a good story. ;-) How serendipitous that we would find a heart chalked onto the side of a pillar in the law quad...

The whole time we were shooting outside, we could see that there were storm clouds taunting us, so we decided to head inside the law library only seconds before a torrential downpour began!! The window that you see here is not textured, that's just massive amounts of rain pouring down at once!
shannon-kayu-engagement-8.jpg

The library has some cool/weird architectural elements to it, so I had fun playing with lines and angles inside while it continued to pour outside.

Part of the building was under construction without any air conditioning either, so things got REALLY hot between the scaffolding..

Once the storm seemed to pass, we headed back out to a different part of campus to explore some different scenery...
shannon-kayu-engagement-16.jpg

I call these moguls, but I think it's really a piece of landscape art called sine hills- based on sine waves? In any case... looks pretty cool, huh?! What a great place to study... or make-out... you know, whatever college is about for you. ;-)

We were sad to see that they turned the fountain off after the storm, but that didn't stop us from getting in and having a little fun anyway!!!
shannon-kayu-engagement-19.jpg

If you look at the negative space between their arms and the reflection of their arms, it kinda looks like an "N"- which is Kayu's last initial... or it just looks like nothing. ;-)
shannon-kayu-engagement-17.jpg

One of the things that Shannon & Kayu had mentioned about their relationship was how they're pretty competitive with each other, so even though it didn't really show itself until the VERY end, I knew that I could go home happy after I captured the picture below... LOVE IT!!!!

Courtney & Nick Engagement

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the Oliver Winery in Bloomington, IN for Courtney & Nick's engagement session. I was just expecting rows and rows of grapevines, but it was obvious that the winery wanted their guests to stay and relax with all of its pretty landscaping and walkways, which helped set the tone for the engagement session.

Courtney & Nick are a really sweet couple, but they didn't have any problem pulling out a little bit of attitude when needed. ;-)

This next shot makes me giggle... he's so tall compared to her!
courtney-nick-engagement-6.jpg

A little shift in perspective makes him seem not so tall...

Yummy... kissing in a vineyard...

It was a hot and humid day... laying down in the grass was nice...

I saved my favorite for last. I would totally make this shot my album cover if I were an indie folk singer, or put a huge canvas of it above my couch. Yeah, I like it that much. It's unexpected and different and it encompasses everything I love about summer... and love. ;-)
