Caroline & Dave Engagement

Even though Caroline & Dave will be married in Chicago - they have fond memories of Champaign, IL where Dave went to college. Since it was close to me (and much less traffic) they decided to revisit Dave's college town for their engagement photos. I wish I knew the name of the park where we started out because there were a lot of interesting little parts to it that made some beautiful backgrounds and I'd love to go back if I'm ever in the area again!

It's pretty amazing what a little bit of rest can do to restore my productivity and creativity! I hope Caroline & Dave don't mind that I got extra creative with the colors on some of these images! I felt the need to play with color today because there's a type of split-toning that I've been wanting to try for a while but didn't quite have the right images to really pull it off, until now. I just love the retro feel of this coloring, and the diner setting was the perfect place to experiment with it!

I love the guy behind the counter in this image, though I wish he were looking at them and not me! I only had a quick second to get an image where he was perfectly balanced in the frame with Caroline & Dave... I love it!!

This is a B&W version of that illustrative technique I tried in the last engagement session. I just love how classic this image feels- especially with the float spilling over the glass!!

Are you diggin' their reflection as much as I am? Caroline loved the flowers in this window display- do I foresee daisies on the wedding day? (I'm a poet and I didn't know it.) What is it about images taken at night that makes them so romantic? ;-)

Caroline & Dave - thank you so much for sharing Champaign with me! You were so easy to photograph! I can't wait for the wedding day!!

  10. Thank you so much for all of the gracious comments!! ;-)

Stacy - Everything has been done in Lightroom. The split toning used was basically something I just played around with until I liked it. I used a magenta or blue shadow tone and a yellow overtone for most of the special coloring.

Richelle - Thank you so much for letting me know! Such a beautiful park you have!!! Now I'm going to have to see if I can find images you've taken there!
